About our SCBWI-MD/DE/WV Illustrators’ Blog:

This blog is a tool for illustrators in the Maryland/Delaware/West Virginia chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators [http://www2.mcdaniel.edu/scbwi/], artists interested in children’s publishing, and anyone interested in the creative process as it pertains to children.  The more you post to it, the more useful it becomes to us all.  Post a photo of you in your work space.  Post an image of a current project.  Post links to online sites that keep you motivated, inspire you to reach higher goals, or educate you.  Have a “light bulb” moment?  Post it here.  Talk about your loves, your kids, your pets, your vacations.  Hey, let’s get personal!

Longing to connect with you outside of major events like conferences, we started a network to offer opportunities to gather together.  That’s difficult to do across 3 states.  Perhaps impossible.  But, it isn’t impossible to do online.  Sometimes we gather for a critique/business meeting to socialize and plan.  Sometimes we SketchCrawl.  A SketchCrawl is a drawing marathon to capture resourceful details of a chosen locale and provide creative camaraderie away from our easels.  Um, it’s like a DRAWING PARTY with friends.  http://www.sketchcrawl.com/

As our network grows, we’re considering rotating the meeting places, as well as, the SketchCrawl locales, so more of us can attend at least 1 social activity near home during the year.  In the meantime, if you live too far from Rockville, MD, you can meet and SketchCrawl with a friend in your hometown and post news of your meetings and sketches from Crawls here.

Susan Detwiler serves as the Illustrator Coordinator of our chapter.

I maintain the blog.  Any questions?  Suggestions?  Post them.– Karen Jo (Rockville, MD)
