April Meeting at Brookside Gardens Notes

rachels-tulips1Spring blooms embraced Rachel and Robyn Hatton and I last Sunday as we met. We shared notes on our Hidden Pictures in progress for submitting to Highlights Magazine. We also discussed making “Read” and “Books Are Fun” bookmarks for Highsmith Press that reaches the library market.  I was surprised that Highsmith isn’t listed in the Children’s Writers and Illustrators Market.  It’s in the Writer’s Market under one of its imprints, Upstart Books, but the information listed there appears to be for manuscripts.  When I taught in public schools, educational bookmarks and posters from Highsmith imprints were used everywhere in every building.  I’m on a quest to find contacts and information for submitting graphic designs for them.  When I find it, I’ll post it.  We tentatively planned a summer “meeting/fieldtrip” to Brandywine River Museum.  http://www.brandywinemuseum.org/  in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania near Wilmington, DE.   “Exhibiting American art in a 19th-century grist mill, the Brandywine River Museum is internationally known for its unparalleled collection of works by three generations of Wyeths and its fine collection of American illustration, still life and landscape painting.”  Is that a place you would like to go?  Would you want to ride with us or meet there?  What would be a good month for you?

rachel1We talked so long that there was very little time to sketch.
Thus, I learned that it’s impossible to schedule a meeting AND a sketch crawl at the same time.

We sketched a little and took many reference photos home to continue sketching.

Even if you can’t make it to a meeting with us, if you have a question or a topic, post it or comment on the Yahoo list serve.  We can discuss by email and the blog.  Also, let’s use this space to brag about your current success!
